Welcome!

Our Mission:
The Stayton Public Library Foundation's mission is to

raise funds to improve the Stayton Public Library facilities, provide an endowment to support library operations, and support special library programs and services

The Stayton Public Library Foundation was organized in 1992 with a mission to build an addition to the Stayton Public Library.  In 1995 the Foundation was recognized as a 501( c )(3) non-profit organization by the IRS.

In 2007, after a successful capital campaign that allowed the Foundation to build a 7,500 square foot addition onto the library, the mission of the foundation was revised to include the creation of a long term, stable source of funds to enhance library services.

The Stayton Public Library serves roughly 24,000 patrons in Stayton, Sublimity, and surrounding rural areas in Marion and Linn Counties.

New Outreach Storyteller Program a Huge Success

The “Outreach Storyteller Program” is a new program of the Stayton Public Library that is funded by the Stayton Public Library Foundation and run by Crystal Neal, a library employee that was hired in October 2009 to be the "Storyteller."

Currently the Outreach Storyteller Program serves about 250 pre-kindergarten children in 17 classrooms at 10 preschools, daycares and Head Start programs in the Stayton, Sublimity, and Aumsville area of Oregon. The Storyteller talks to the children about the library, reads library books and uses songs, puppets, and other activities during the visit to engage the students in the stories.

Crystal also delivers a rotating collection of books to each school classroom for teachers to keep and use in their classrooms for a month.  The program will also be giving away up to four books a year to each participating child to take home and begin their own personal library collection.  The first book give-away took place in January, 2010.

This project expands the reach of the Stayton Public Library, by taking services outside the library.  Children who attend daycare or preschool are often unable to attend library activities, such as story time, due to the work schedule of their caregivers.  The goal of this program is to help families and caregivers improve children's reading skills by bringing the library and its services directly to them.  Hopefully, we will kindle a desire in these students to explore their community library and discover the world of reading.

Library Welcomes New Director

Stayton welcomes Louise Meyers as the new Library Director!  Louise most recently served as the director of the Jefferson Library and has many years of experience in the library world.  The Foundation looks forward to having her at the library.  Louise replaces Pam Pugsley who has retired after serving as Library Director since 2001.  We thank Pam for all her hard work and dedication, she will be sorely missed.

Spirit Mountain Community Fund Awards $27,500 to The Stayton Public Library Foundation

The Stayton Public Library Foundation has been awarded a $27,500 grant from the Sprit Mountain Community Fund in order to purchase a heavy duty photo copier, Microfilm reader/printer, outdoor trash receptacles, and to put in a sidewalk from the community center parking lot to the library.  All of these items had been outside the scope of the Stayton library expansion project that was completed in July of 2007.

“This gift makes it possible for us to add some much needed equipment and enhancements to improve our library services”, said Dave Karr, Foundation president. “We are extraordinarily grateful to the Spirit Mountain Community Fund for their support and for providing us the grant for these improvements”, he added. read more...
