Good News For the Library

There is still some good news to be found these days.  Generous donors have given the Stayton Library’s Outreach Storyteller Program an additional $10,000 and have funded a new website for the Library Foundation.

The Doris J. Wipper Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation donated $10,000 to fund part of the most popular service of the library, the Outreach Storyteller Program.  This generous gift will allow continuation of the program that reaches into schools and daycare facilities to jump start reading for hundreds of children in our communities.

NW Natural has agreed to fund the new Stayton City Library Foundation’s website.  This generous gift from our local gas utility will allow the Foundation to completely change the existing website, making it more useful to our wonderful supporters.

Gifts like these allow the Library to continue serving a greater number of people in our communities.  All gifts, no matter how small, are needed and welcome to continue the mission of learning and education espoused by the Library Foundation.  If you are interested in finding out how to support your local library, call us at 503-769-9658 or go to the website at www.staytonlibraryfoundation.org.

Stayton Library Foundation Receives Gifts

The Stayton Library Foundation received two very welcome gifts from Oregon donors this month totaling $7,000.  Both gifts were specifically earmarked for the Outreach Storyteller, a wonderful program that features Crystal Neal, who reaches more than 16 pre-K classrooms, day cares and Head Start classes at over 10 different sites, reading to hundreds of children each month.  The locations are all in Stayton, Sublimity, Lyons and the surrounding rural areas of the North Santiam Canyon in both Linn and Marion counties.

$2,000 came from The Oregon Cultural Trust and the Marion Cultural Development Corporation.  These entities “…were established to support and protect Oregon culture…".  Their mission is to:

  • Protect and stabilize Marion County cultural resources, and to create a solid foundation for the future.
  • Expand public awareness of, quality of, access to, and use of culture in Marion County.
  • Ensure that Marion County cultural resources are strong and dynamic contributors to Marion County's communities and quality of life.

An additional $5,000 came from the Juan Young Trust, whose mission is “To provide grants to 501 (c) (3) organizations that promote the health, education and welfare of children under 21 years old, in the state of Oregon.”
